Abstract

1376505 Recording-apparatus SONY CORP 28 Jan 1972 [30 Jan 1971 (2)] 4139/72 Heading G1J [Also in Division C7] A recording medium 14 for a spark-burning recorder comprises a base 11 which is coloured or has a coloured layer thereon, a second layer 12 on the coloured base (or coloured layer), and a layer 13 on the second layer 12 of vapour-deposited Al or Al-based alloy, the second layer including no conductive material, and the metal layer having a surface sufficiently rough for the glossiness (defined in the Specification) to be less than 20%. The base 11 may be coloured paper whose surface has been polymer-coated and roughened by sandblasting, or white paper coated with coloured pigment such as lead oxide, iron oxide or C black and having a non-conductive resin coating in which may be incorporated inorganic particles to provide a rough surface, e.g. CaCo 3 , BaSO 4 , Al 2 O 3 , Al (OH) 3 , MgO, Mg CO 3 , TiO 2 or glass powder; the Al is conventionally vapour-deposited. In use Al is removed from the medium by spark-burning and the colour of the base makes the image clearly visible; the non-conductive second layer inhibits damage by galvanic corrosion on storage.
