Abstract
1376307 Ship construction J R J RUTHERFORD 1 June 1972 [3 June 1971] 18794/71 Addition to 1374578 Headings B7A and B7S A ship comprises a hull formed by joining together prefabricated modules and a further structure comprising one or more hollow prefabricated modules subsequently supported in and assembled to the hull, the hull providing a cavity within which the hollow modules is or are lodged on face-to-face engagement with the walls of the cavity being fastened by glueing, bolting or otherwise directly thereto. As illustrated, a primary hull of a container ship is made up of modules 2-4 which together provide a flat upper surface to support modules 6-8, which form the deck of the ship, and modules 9, which form the cargo containing spaces. Thrust blocks run fore and aft in each primary hull module. Cabin and propulsion modules may be provided on or in the hull. A travelling gantry may be provided on the hull for loading and unloading purposes, Fig. 5 (not. shown).
