Abstract
1375880 Stabilized compositions containing copper myxin F HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE & CO AG 5 May 1972 [7 May 1971] 21039/72 Heading A5B Pharmaceutical compositions having antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive and -negative bacteria, fungi, protozoa and helminths contain, as the active ingredient, the copper II complex of 6-methoxy-1-phenazinol 5, 10-dioxide (copper myxin) and, as a stabilizer, from 2 to 20% molar excess of copper II ions based on the copper content in the copper II complex, the excess of copper II ions being provided by a water-soluble copper II salt. The excess copper may originate from a stabilizer-buffer solution comprising a watersoluble copper II salt e.g. copper II acetate, in an aqueous solution buffered at pH 5.7-6.2 by the use of an alkali metal salt having the same anionic moiety as the copper II salt e.g. sodium acetate, and the corresponding acid e.g. acetic acid. The compositions may be administered topically in the form of creams or suspensions.
