A bactericidal, algicidal and/or fungicidal composition comprises an aqueous solution of an alkali metal salt of dichlorophen containing a dispersant, e.g. ethylene diamine. A method for reducing the formation of bacteria, algae and/or fungi in a water system operating at an acid pH using the above composition is also claimed.
