Abstract

1375654 Cooling burner flames INGENIEURSBUREAU RODENHUIS & VERLOOP NV 5 May 1972 [6 Jan 1972] 21000/72 Heading F4T A method of generating a cooled flame in a gas burner comprises forming an annular stream of gas at the mouth of the burner and spraying water continuously from the centre of the mouth of the burner into the circumference of the annular flame formed by combustion of the gas and combustion air which is fed to the outer circumference of the gas stream. Aburner 6 comprises a double-walled casing 7, 8 for the supply of gas from a conduit 10 to the annular mouth of the burner and a liquid atomizing device 17 with a supply conduit 18 mounted in the centre of the casing. An atomizing air conduit 8 is connected by way of tangential apertures 39 in a turbulence nozzle 38, carried by a supporting ring 31 within a easing 30 and to tangential apertures 37 in a spraying head holder 35. Passage of air through the apertures 37 and 39 induces turbulence in the air. At the mouth of the burner 6, a flame funnel 13 and a crown of gas outflow bores 12 are attached to a front wall 11 of the gas supply channel 9. An annular flame formed by gas flowing through the bores 12 sustains an annular main flame formed by combustion of a mixture comprising gas from outflow tubes 14 and air from a wind box 23 conducted outside and through a channel 16 defined by an air deflection bushing 15. The annular main and sustaining flames are sprayed with atomized water from the atomizing device 17 and thereby cooled. The burner 6 is mounted by means of a bushing 27 and reinforcement plates 28 in an aperture 25 of a wall 24. A number of such burners 6 protrude through flame holes 5 into a boiler 1 which has a front chamber wall 2 along which run boiler tubes 3 embedded in insulation material 4. Up to 1 kg. water/m.<SP>3</SP> natural gas is atomized by the device 17.
