Abstract
1375622 Winding gear; elevation catch gear POMAGALSKI SA 23 March 1972 [26 March 1971] 13674/72 Headings B8B and B8L An apparatus for raising and lowering a scaffold or like platform and adapted to be secured to the platform, includes a support cable 10, and a safety cable 34 depending from a fixed structure up which the platform is movable, a haulage pulley system 12, 14 and a safety catch system 36, 38 mounted on a frame 20 attachable to the platform, the safety system arresting the platform in the event of the support cable going slack. The cable 10 passes over the powered hauling pulley 12 and is pressed into contact therewith by a compressing wheel 14 mounted on a lever 16 pivotal at 30, the lever 16 also mounting a roller 18 which engages the cable 10 passing on to the pulley 12 whereby the wheel 14 is forced against the pulley 12 provided there is tension in the cable 10 above the pulley 12. A compression spring 24 biases the lever 16 anticlockwise against the effect of the tensioned cable 10. On the reverse side of the frame 20 is mounted a pair of gripping jaws 36, 38 between which the safety cable 34 extends, the jaw 36 being forced towards the jaw 38 by cam ends of a pair of parallel swing hubs 42, 42<SP>1</SP> which pivotally support the jaw 38 which is U-shaped in horizontal section. In the event of the cable 10 going slack, a pin 50 mounting the pulley 18 and extending through an arcuate slot 48 in the frame 20, engages the base of the jaw 38 and under the influence of the spring 24 raises the jaw 38 causing the hubs 42, 42<SP>1</SP> to lock the jaws 36, 38 against the safety cable 34. An arm 54 secured to the jaw 38 causes operation of the safety brake if the platform cants. Several of these apparatus may be used on a single platform.
