1375385 Railway points ELEKTRO-THERMIT GmbH 6 Dec 1971 [4 Dec 1970] 56596/71 Heading E1G In a railway points having provision for thermal expansion of a pair of long spring tongues rigidly connected to the main rails (not shown) wherein each tongue end 3 is swung laterally on rollers or slides 6, 7, 8 to align with either main or branch line rail ends 4, 5 and wherein the points gap 3-5 is filled by a movable chamfered locking key 9, the rail ends 4, 5 and lateral slides 6, 7, 8 are mounted on a plate 2 which can slide longitudinally on a base plate 1 as the tongue expands, such longitudinal sliding being accommodated by slidable bevel scarf expansion joints X, Y between the rail ends 4, 5 and their respective lines. As illustrated in Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) the plate (2) slides longitudinally in overhanging guides (13) on the plate (1), while the tongue end 3 has p.t.f.e.-coated dovetail or T-section recesses (14, 15) sliding laterally on corresponding members (6, 7) on the plate (2).
