Abstract

1375336 Digital weighing SHINKO DENSHI KK 17 May 1973 [20 May 1972] 23515/73 Heading G4H In a weighing apparatus with digital readout, the sensitivity is automatically reduced by a factor n when the input exceeds the maximum capacity of the indicator and increased by the same factor when the input is less than 1/n of the indicator capacity. As described with n = 10, weight 1 produces a weight proportional voltage from differential transformer 2 and this is fed via rectifier 3, amplifier 4, 10 : 1 potential divider 8, 9 and switch 12 to the three digit display which has a full scale reading of 999 corresponding to 9À99g. For weights of less than 9À99 g. the switches of relay 10 are as shown and contact 13a of switch 13 actuates the left hand decimal point. If the weight exceeds 10g. an overscale signal is generated closing switch 14 to actuate the relay. This connects contacts 11 and 11a holding the relay on, reduces the input voltage to one tenth of its previous value via contact 12b of switch 12 and switches on the right hand decimal point. When the weight is reduced to 9À99g. or less, the input to the display will be 0À099 volts or less display reading 09À9 and the zero in the first place causes switch 15 to open switching the relay off and restoring the original condition. The system may also comprise a 1999 or 9999 readout, and use 3 decimal points. The weight to voltage conversion device may be a load cell comprising a strain gauge.
