Abstract

1,011,401. Electric digital calculators. W. & T. AVERY Ltd. Sept. 5, 1962 [Sept. 8, 1961], No. 32257/61. Heading G4A. An automatic apparatus for taring a container prior to feeding into it the material to be weighed comprises an adding circuit to which are fed signals indicative of the tare weight of the container. To this circuit are fed further signals from counting circuits until their sum shows as zero, whereupon the counting circuits are stopped. The embodiment described uses a two-stage decimal arrangement A 1 , A 10 , and a two-stage decimal counter C 1 , C 10 . In use, counter C 1 , C 10 is set to zero and the container placed in the weighing machine which is coupled to a coded scale which co-operates with photoelectric means to provide binary signals indicative of the container's weight. These signals are fed to A 1 , A 10 at terminals B 1 , B 10 . A clock pulse train is now caused to pass via gate G to counter C 1 , C 10 which feeds a binary count to A 1 , A 10 . When the sum of the container's weight and the count on C 1 , C 10 reaches 100 both A 1 and A 10 will indicate zero on all terminals and the " carry" pulse causes gate G to be disabled. The count now stored in C 1 , C 10 is thus 100-(container weight). When material is added to the container the value indicated on A 1 , A 10 will be the true weight of the material.
