Abstract

1375320 Dicyclopentadiene SOC CHIMIQUE DES CHARBONNAGES 30 March 1972 [2 April 1971] 15009/72 Heading C5E Dicyclopentadiene is prepared from cyclopentadiene fractions containing large amounts of other dienes by carrying out the dimerization wholly in the liquid phase under superatmospheric pressure and in at least two heating stages in separate reactors, the first stage being carried out at a substantially constant temperature of 100‹ C. or below for not longer than one hour (which is insufficient time for a major dimerization), the reaction products of the first stage being passed without intermediate separation to at least one other stage at a substantially constant temperature higher than 100‹ C., the duration of the subsequent stage or stages being not greater than that of the first stage. Preferably the dimerization is carried out in 3 stages.
