Abstract
1375065 Draughting machines KEUFFEL & ESSER CO 6 March 1972 [9 March 1971] 10403/72 Heading G1X A draughting device comprises a flat, magnetically attractable board 20 on which a magnetized cylindrical roller 11 is supported, the roller slideably supporting a yoke member 14 to which is attached a drawing element 16. The roller 11, which may comprise a tube or rod 12 to which is attached, by adhesive or by a nut and bolt arrangement, a plurality of axially aligned magnetized discs 13, Fig. 3 (not shown), spaced from one another by soft iron discs 35, is arranged on the board 20 parallel to an up-turned lip 21 defining one edge of the board so that the roller 11 is able to move relative to the board 20 only by rolling in a direction perpendicular to the lip 21. This movement together with the sliding engagement of the yoke member 14 on the roller 11 provides two perpendicular directions of movement of the drawing element 16 over the board 20. The drawing element 16 may comprise a triangular member provided with graduations along one edge and along a slot 17 and also with a rotatably mounted protractor 18 in a cut-out of the triangular member. The yoke member 14 which surrounds a major portion of the circumference of the roller 11 may be provided with bearing surfaces (26. 26<SP>1</SP>) Fig. 2 (not shown), matching the curvature of the roller 11 and coated with a solid lubricant such as P.T.F.E. The yoke member 14 may be of aluminium or plastics material and the drawing element 16 may of transparent acrylic material.
