PURPOSE:To eliminate variance of the scanning speed in the two-dimensional direction to perform high-precision check, by processing video signals, which are obtained from an image pick-up device by scanning in two dimensions, to check successively the outside circumference surface of cylindrical materials arranged into one line. CONSTITUTION:Many cylindrical materials 3 are arranged into one line and are arranged in parallel with two rollers 4a and 4b and are rotated in a fixed speed. Image pick-up device 5 is moved continuously in the arrangement direction of these cylindrical materials 3, and the moving speed is detected to shift picture element coordinates of the video signal obtained from image pick-up device 5 following this movement, and further, coordinates are updated for every one or two cylindrical materials 3. As a result, the outside circumference surface of many arranged cylindrical materials 3 can be checked efficiently with a minimum memory and a high precision.
