Abstract

1,132,387. Drawing appliances. SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd. 11 May, 1967 [11 May, 1966], No. 20989/66. Heading B6P. A drawing appliance intended for use as a toy comprises two magnetic members 1, 14, the magnet 1 carrying a holder 12 for a marking implement 13, e.g. a ball point pen, and the magnet 14 being used to move the magnet 1 over the surface of a paper sheet supported on a horizontally held sheet 6 of non-magnetic material e.g. aluminium, so that the implement 13 makes marks corresponding to the movement of magnet 14. The magnets are U-shaped, and the pole faces of the magnet 1 are covered by a strip 4 of polytetrafluorethylene to facilitate sliding of the magnet 1 over the paper. The holder 12 is attached to an arm 9 slotted so as to engage adjustably a screwed stud and nut 11 projecting from an aluminium clip 7 fitting over the magnet 1. The magnet 14 may be moved by hand or it may replace the stylus in the drawing appliance described in Specification 960,312, in which case the sheet 6 is secured to the fixed part of the appliance.
