1375058 Continuous testing of wire and strip LEONISCHE DRAHTWERKE AG 6 Oct 1972 46297/72 Heading G1S In a process for the continuous regulation of the yield strength and/or the modulus of elasticity of metal or non-metal wire or strip 20 the wire is tensioned and stretched to a particular known yield strength or modulus by first passing it around wheels 7 and 12 and then passing it back around wheel 8, the wheels 7, 8 being fixed together but rotatable on axle 6 and being of slightly different circumference, the difference being the amount it is necessary to stretch the wire and the tension in the wire being regulated by a spring 13 and measured by a displacement device 15. In the course of passing over these wheels the wheel 12 is moved upwards or downwards on its fixed axle I 1 mounted on the arm 10 pivoted at 9, its movement depending on the tension necessary to pass and stretch the wire around the wheels at the required stretch. This tension is kept more or less constant and the arm 10 horizontal, according to the required yield strength and or modulus of elasticity of the material of the wire, by arranging that any movement up or down of the wheel 12 causes the other end of the arm 10 also to move under the restraint of a damper 14 to operate a length measuring gauge 15 which also produces signals in circuits, Figs.5 and 6 (not shown) to control a wire annealing device and therefore the wire tension and stretch, thus regulating the yield strength.
