Abstract
1374958 Valves SOC ANON DES ETABS JOUVENEL & CORDIER 26 June 1973 [6 July 1972] 30418/73 Heading F2V A multi-purpose valve device comprises three ports 12, 14 and 20, interconnection between which being controlled by a valve member 22 responsive to fluid pressure and an adjustable valve plunger 26 controlling an additional passageway 27 interconnecting ports 12 and 14. Port 20 may be closed off by a screw-plug (not shown). Valve member 22 includes a resilient annular lip 25 having a number of small orifices 24 which prevent the lip being damaged in the event of a sudden flow reversal. If a plug is inserted in port 20 the valve acts as a conventional check valve permitting flow between ports 12 and 14 provided plunger 26 is in its closed position. Opening of the plunger permits a restricted flow in the reverse direction. If the plug is removed from port 20 and plunger 26 is closed the valve acts as a high-speed discharge valve allowing free flow from port 12 to port 14 but when pressure falls at port 12 the valve member moves to open a connection between port 14 and port 20. With this arrangement the valve also acts as a flow selector between either port 12 or port 20 and port 14, depending upon whether the pressure is higher in port 12 or port 20. In a second embodiment, Fig. 8 (not shown), performing the same functions, the valve plunger (26) is disposed in alignment with port (20) and has an axial passage therein, equivalent to passageway 16 of Fig. 1, controlled by a similar valve member (22). In a third embodiment, Fig. 9 (not shown), also performing the same functions and resembling that of Fig. 8, the plunger (26) is formed on an extension of the connector (18) in which the port (20) is located, the connector being screwthreaded for adjustment of the plunger.
