Abstract
1374727 Watches ERVIN PIQUEREZ SA 13 March 1973 [29 March 1972] 12019/73 Heading G3T A sealed watch case which is normally under pressure or vacuum has a leakage indicator comprising a piston 4 slidably mounted in a bore which is closed at one end by a transparent member 1 to form a cavity 5 and is open at the other end to the watch case interior, the piston having a hollow interior which is divided by a bi-stable metallic membrane 12 into a compartment 14 containing a gas and a compartment 15 filled with an opaque liquid and connected to the cavity 5 by a channel 11. The indicator as shown comprises a ring 3 glued in a recess 2 in the watch glass 1. The watch case is under vacuum so that the piston 4 is spaced from the face of the recess 2 and a blue disc is visible through the glass since the opaque liquid, which is an oil dyed blue, fills the cavity 5. If vacuum is lost, the piston is displaced in the ring 3 into the recess 2 Fig. 2 (not shown) and the membrane 12 takes up its other position thus enlarging the compartment 15. The indicator then displays a blue ring surrounding the metallic end of the piston. A screw 7 and O-ring 8 are fitted to seal the cavity 5 after assembly of the piston in the ring 3. The compartment 14, which is filled with air at atmospheric pressure, may alternatively be provided inside a pair of metallic membranes welded together at their edges and floating inside the piston 4. The member 1 may be a special glass mounted in the dial.
