Abstract

1374706 Indicator devices for braking systems KNORR-BREMSE GmbH 11 May 1972 [11 May 1971 28 May 1971] 22228/72 Heading F2E A device for indicating the operational state of a fluid pressure operated brake, the fluid pressure being supplied from a reservoir 7, comprises a first fluid-pressure-operable indicator 16 for connection to the brake cylinder for indicating the pressure therein and a second fluid-pressure-operable indicator 24 for connection to the reservoir 7 for indicating the pressure therein. If a handbrake arrangement is provided for the brakes a third fluid-pressureoperable indicator 16<SP>1</SP> is furnished for connection through a valve 10 to the reservoir 7 for indicating the position of a brake actuator, i.e. a piston 8 of a brake cylinder 6<SP>1</SP>, the valve 10 being actuated when the brakes are operated to allow fluid to flow to the indicator 16<SP>1</SP> and being actuated when the brakes are released, as by the piston 8 depressing a tappet 11 of the valve 10, to cut off the supply of fluid from the indicator 16<SP>1</SP> and vent the indicator. Each indicator comprises a spring loaded piston working in a cylinder, fluid pressure opposing the spring loading. Indicators 16, 16<SP>1</SP> provide visual indication of the state of the brakes through apertures 29, 29<SP>1</SP> in a plate 30. The indicator 24 comprises a screening means 28 which covers the apertures 29, 29<SP>1</SP>, should the reservoir 7 pressure fail so that no indication of the state of the brakes can be seen thus meaning that the state of the brakes should be investigated. The device is disclosed as being in combination with a pneumatic braking system on a rail vehicle.
