Abstract

1374697 Discharge tubes SPERRY RAND CORP 22 Feb 1972 [10 March 1971] 8046/72 Heading H1D The outer conductor of a coaxial line which is coupled to a high frequency circuit of a discharge tube-as shown, the helix of a travelling-wave tube-is hermetically sealed at its outer end to a dielectric member 27 having a blind bore 28 into which the end 21 of the inner conductor of the line is received with a loose fit. As shown, the inner conductor projects into a waveguide 22, which is brazed to the outer surface of the outer conductor, and is shorted at one end by a metal plate 33. In a modified arrangement (Fig. 2, not shown), the outer conductor is releasably coupled to the waveguide 22. The cylinder 27 may be of alumina or beryllia, and the arrangement may be employed also in a klystron, linear or circular magnetron, or high frequency triode.
