Abstract

1374669 Indexing K JAUCH 14 June 1972 [15 June 1971] 27706/72 Heading B3B In a machine having a plurality of tool heads for working simultaneously on a plurality of workpieces in adjustable holders 8, 12 rotationally mounted on an indexable plate 5 that can be raised and lowered, the arrangement is characterized in that radial serrations 16, on each holder 8, 12, engage with similar serrations 17 on flanges 6, 7, fixed to a housing 2, and in that the plate 5 is elastically resilient at its rim, e.g. by providing radial slots between each holder 8, 12, so that when the plate 5 is lowered each holder is resiliently and uniformly held, and centred, on is respective flange 6, 7. The plate 5 is indexed by a shaft 47 having a sinusoidal cam slot 48 engaging pins 51 on a disc 50 drivingly engaged with the plate. Each holder 8, 12 is mounted in bearings in the rim of the plate 5 and has pressure pieces mounted in the plate 5 acting to resist lateral tool thrust in a machining operation. The holders 8, 12 are rotated about their own axes as the plate 5 is indexed by means of a planet gear (43a) (Fig. 3, not shown) engaging gear rims (45), (46) on the housing and holders.
