Abstract

.137,449. McGruer, E. April 17, 1919. Oars.-The shank a, Fig. 2, is constructed of two wooden laminµ b, c which are elliptical in sction towards the blade end as shown in Fig. 3. The section gradually changes to circular at the handle end, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. Each lamina consists of a wooden board which is wetted on one side and heated on the other side, and then bent upon the heated side as described in Specification 4704/15. The shank tapers tcward the blade end, and a block f, which may be solid or hollow, is fitted into it. The blade d is secured by a long V-joint h. The handle e is bored as shown at j and inserted into the shank. When used with fixed rowlocks, the button k consists of a piece of wood faced with leather, and a leather covering l is secured to the shank by lacing. The covering has a pocket m which covers the button. In the case of swivel rowlocks, the button consists of a wooden ring.
