Abstract

1373977 Transferring material between endless conveyers; shoots AMF Inc 29 Feb 1972 [20 May 1971] 29989/73 Divided out of 1373974 Headings B8A and B8S Apparatus for dividing a random flow of articles into single file streams includes a shaft bearing first and second rollers 90, 92 rotating in opposite directions. In the embodiment, tobacco leaves fall from belt 10 towards belt 14, an adjustable proportion being diverted by paddle wheel 16 and off baffle 18, to the rollers 90, 92 for initial division. Further division of these two streams is by baffles 96, 98 and baffles 100-104 in co-operation with rollers 118-124 so that finally four streams of leaves are carried by belt 22 to photo-electric sorting station 28, where acceptably coloured leaves fall off the belt into shoot 224 and unacceptable leaves are ejected by air jet 30 to belt 226. The collection areas 32, 34 can be shoots and/or conveyers. Gearing and drive for the roller system is detailed in Figs. 4, 5 (not shown). The photo-electric sorting apparatus is described and claimed in the parent Specification 1,373,974 and also in Specification 1,373,975.
