Abstract

1373855 Shearing; angular bending BOYAN Ltd 16 June 1972 [21 June 1971] 28302/72 Headings B3W and B3E A tool for shearing or bending stiff wire, bolts, rods &c. has shear plates 16 and 30 with shearing holes 34, 36, 38 and notches 40 which can be aligned to receive stock to be sheared, the plate 30 being pivotable about a pin 46 connecting it to the plate 16, which plate is fixed to one handle 14a by means of the other handle 14b through a lever 54. The lever is pivoted to the plate 16 at 56 and carries a cam 72 which engages in a cam slot 52 in the plate 30. A stop 92 on the plate 76 limits closing i.e. shearing movement of the handles. A stop screw 86 on the lever 54 engages the lower edge of the plate 30 (as viewed in Fig. 1) when the shearing holes and notches are in alignment. Some of the holes in the plate 30 are threaded. To use the tool for bending, the stop screw 86 is backed off and the cam 72 disengaged from the cam slot 52 to allow the shear plate 30 to be pivoted to the Fig. 4 position. A workpiece is inserted between the stop 92 and the cam 72 on one side and the pivot pin 56 on the other and the handle 14b is pivoted clockwise about pin 56 to bend workpiece portion Wa about the pin 56.
