1373798 Rolling tubes FRIEDRICH KOCKS 29 Nov 1971 [9 Dec 1970] 55278/71 Heading B3M A skew rolling rmill for seamless tubes or, hollow blooms includes two skew rolls 4, Fig. 1 and two straight edges 8 and 10 for supporting a workpiece between the rolls, the straight edge 8 being readily replaceable by a similar, but cold, edge between two rolling operations. To change the edge 8, a holder 12 is first raised and then rotated about a shaft 14 through 90 degrees. A further edge 8a, Fig. 2, is then ready to be lowered into place. A similar holder (Fig. 3, not shown) may be arranged to rotate about an axis parallel to that of the workpiece. In an alternative form, Fig. 4, the removable edge 36 is supported by a vertically movable rod 44. When the rod is raised to the level of two aligned magazines 46 and 48, a ram 50 pushes the hot edge into the magazine 48 while simultaneously locating a cold edge 36a in the rod. When all the new edges 36a have been used, a ram 52 moves all the edges back into the magazine 46. Alternatively, the hot edges can move through a separate cooling cycle. In Fig. 6 the upper straight edge is supported on a pivoted lever 60, and is readily replaceable by an edge carried on a similar lever 60a. A plunger 68 holds the working edge in position. The straight edges may be made axially adjustable in the rolling direction.
