Abstract

1373785 Treating wood KEMIRA OY 8 Oct 1971 [9 Oct 1970] 47053/71 Heading D1P [Also in Division B2] Cellulosic materials are coated, impregnated and/or glued with polyurethane resins by a process wherein the OH-groups of the cellulose molecules are caused to react with organic di-, tri- or polyisocyanates whereafter the formation of polyurethane contained in the reaction product from the isocyanates is enhanced by the addition of alcohols and/or alkyd resins containing OH-groups, whereafter the treated material is exposed to heat. Reaction of cellulose molecules and/or enhancement of polyurethane formation may be effected in the presence of acrylates and/or methacrylates. Treatment media may additionally contain catalysts, wood protectants, fire retardants, water repellants, release agents and/or pigments. Specified wood protectants are pentachlorophenol, oxine, chlorinated naphthalenes, tributyl stanine oxide, and hexachlorocyclohexane. Fire retardants mentioned are haloalkyds and dicyandiamide, and release agents are silicones such as dimethyl polysiloxane and fatty acids. TiO 2 is the only pigment mentioned.
