Abstract

1373506 Rotary disc presses R B REINHALL 12 Nov 1971 [4 Dec 1970] 52659/71 Heading B1D Liquid is expressed from a suspension, e.g. of cellulose fibres, wood particles or peat, by means of a rotary disc press, the suspension being supplied through tangential inlets 70 to 71 to the wider gap between two perforated discs 12, 14 which are slightly inclined to each other and are rotating in the same direction at the same speed, the press having a central perforated disc 16 disposed between the two outer discs. Liquid is pressed out of the suspension through the apertures 75 in the discs; and the expressed liquid leaves discs 12, 14 through holes 56, and leaves disc 16 through peripheral channels 18 which lead to drainage holes 58. The pulp, from which liquid has been expressed, is discharged from the press through outlet 73 (Fig. 2). Discs 12 and 14 are mounted on bearings 40, 42 on non-rotatable shaft 20. Disc 16 is mounted on shaft 20 by sliding bearings 44 so that the disc can move in an axial direction. The outer discs 12 and 14 are rotated by tooth or chain driving means 34 and 36 respectively, which are operated by motors 38, 39 synchronized so that the two discs rotate at the same speed. The rotation of the outer discs causes idle rotation of disc 16 by means of power transfer through annular sealing bodies 60, 61 which may be made of rubber or plastics material. The bearing-housings 30 and 32 contain, on one side of partition 22, a hydraulic pressure fluid, such as oil, introduced through channels 24 in shaft 20. If it is desired to displace discs 12 and 14 from one another, pressure fluid is supplied to the other side of partition 22 through channel 26. It is possible to mount the central disc so that it is non-displaceable on shaft 20; the outer discs must then be axially displaceable. More than one intermediate disc may be provided between the two outer discs. The apertures 75 may open into individual cells having the form of sectors and each having a liquid-discharge passage. The discharge passages may be connected to a suction source.
