Abstract

1373309 Fluid regulation DRESSER INDUSTRIES Inc 22 Nov 1972 [29 Dec 1971] 54055/72 Heading G3H In apparatus for measuring the total number of air pulses and the instantaneous frequency of the pulses, e.g. air pulses generated by a reciprocating oil-well pump 17, Fig.1, the reciprocating shaft 16 of the pump actuates a valve 15 to alternately charge and discharge a tank 19 with air delivered from source 10, the consequent pulsating discharge acting via line 21 to control NOR gates 25, 26 which deliver a pulsating output through line 35 to a solenoid 33 of amplifier 34 which, in turn, produces amplified pulses for delivery through line 38 to actuate counter 40 and to junction 39, Figs.1 and 2. The pulses at junction 39 are used to reciprocate a valve 59 controlling delivery of regulated air-pulses from a flowrater 65 into a tank 61 and the discharge therefrom through a booster relay 68 to an indicator. Moreover, the pulses at junction 39 reciprocate a valve 42 controlling charging and discharge of tank 46, the resulting pulsating discharge being delivered to a pilot valve 49 via line 50 having a slow bleed 51, to cause reciprocation of dump valve 55 which dumps the contents of tank 61 to atmosphere immediately after the tank has been communicated with the indicator 70. Thus the pressure build up in the tank 61 is dependent on the time between the pulses at 39, so that the reading at 70 is indicative of the frequency of the pulses. The tank 61 may instead be arranged so that the pressure therein decreases between pulses. The flowrater may comprise a circular disc (83), Fig.3 (not shown), having an opening (84) therethrough at its periphery and rotated at constant speed by pneumatic motor (81) between the jaws of a pair of diametrically opposite air switches (85, 86) to induce in the outlets of the switches pulsating flows which actuate respective valves (91, 94) inter-connected via a tank (97) and producing the regulated air-pulses in a single outlet line (99).
