Abstract

1373191 Compression moulding NEWBOLD GENERAL REFRACTORIES Ltd 15 Jan 1973 [25 Jan 1972] 2116/73 Heading B5A Apparatus for forming undercut anchorage cavities in moulded articles, e.g. refractory stopper heads for metal ladles, comprises a moulding cylinder 7 with opposed die plates 12, 13 between which moulding material is pressed when the plate 12 is lowered by a ram, and core levers 20 pivoted about pins 21 and provided with cavity forming end portions 32 with lugs 33 which extend through the plate 13. In the moulding position, Fig. 3, the end portions are thrust apart by a rod 36 adjustably mounted on the rod 37 of a pneumatic ram 38. After the moulding operation, Fig. 4, the rod 36 is retracted and engages the ends of cam pins 46 on the levers 20 whereby the cavity forming end portions of the core levers are brought together allowing the die plate 13 to be raised by a ram, not shown. The latter acts on the base of a U- shaped yoke 17, the upper ends of which are attached to the die plate 13.
