Abstract
1373096 Laminates BRITISH STEEL CORP 22 Sept 1971 [22 Sept 1970] 45154/70 Heading B5N [Also in Division B2] Ferromagnetic material for use in a magnetic circuit comprises ferromagnetic sheet material having bonded to it a layer of material effective to restrain magnetostrictive movement of the sheet or of components produced from the sheet when excited by an applied magnetic field. The bonded layer reduces the noise level in magnetic cores made of the ferromagnetic material. The material of the bonded layer may be a natural or synthetic polymer resin or an electrically insulating glass. The bonded layer is generally itself electrically insulating but the ferromagnetic sheet may also have a layer of oxide insulation. Moreover, two or more isotropic or anisotropic ferromagnetic sheets may be bonded together by intermediate layers of the above material to restrain magnetostrictive movement and to further restrain the generation of noise, the bonding layer may have a filler of mica flour, mica platelets, ferric or ferrous oxide or a ferrite material in finely divided form. When isotropic sheet is used, the sheet may be subjected to mechanical strain while the bonded or bonding layer is hardened, the layer then maintaining the strain when hardened so as to give the isotropic sheet magnetic properties similar to those of anisotropic sheet. The bonding layer may be applied to the sheet or sheets in particulate or viscous form or in the form of an extruded solid sheet.
