Abstract
1372246 Rolling mills ILARIO PROPERZI 2 Nov 1971 [20 Feb 1971] 50984/71 Heading B3M In the hot rolling of wire rod to a diameter of between 6 and 2 mm. in a tandem mill, the rod is pickled during the rolling process. A pickling fluid is added to the normal cooling and/or lubricating fluid fed through the stands of the mill. A number of stands each having three work rolls (Fig. 2) are used for rolling rod 2, the pickling fluid being fed to the stands at 3. A separate fluid for the transmission gears follows the paths of the dashed arrows 7. At the pressures needed to reduce the rod (which may be copper) to a diameter of less than 6 mm. surface irregularities in the rod are removed.
