Abstract

1372112 Water jet propulsion unit BORGWARNER CORP 12 Jan 1972 [2 Feb 1971] 1398/72 Heading B7V [Also in Division F2] A centrifugal pump, Fig. 1, which may be used as a water jet propulsion unit, comprises a plurality of impellers 48, 52, each with its own discharge housing 14, 16 and connected to an inlet housing 18, 20, 22, mounted (e.g. by keys 60) on a shaft comprising two shaft portions 62, 64 connected at 72 by a ring of engaged radial teeth 74, 74<SP>1</SP> (e.g. shaped as in Figs. 5 and 7) held together by a tensioned mandrel 66. One end of the mandrel 66 may be connected to the shaft portion 64 as in Fig. 3, and the other may be able to mount a detachable tensioning device 92...118, Fig. 8, including an hydraulically pressurizable chamber 104, tension being retained by a nut 68 with holes parallel to the axis engageable by pins on the curved end of a question mark shaped spanner. The shaft bearings 34, 38, 44 may include one 44 comprising a fabricated rubber sleeve encircled by a layer of plastics and wound glass laminate.
