Abstract

1371973 Blasting ESAB-HEBE AB 24 Nov 1972 [1 Dec 1971] 54522/72 Heading B3D Apparatus for grit blasting the edge of a plate 10 comprises at least one nozzle 18, a conduit 11 for sucking away used grit, first sliding members 13 fixedly mounted in a frame for engaging the edge of the plate, and further sliding members 16 for engaging the side surfaces of the plate and mounted upon a pincerlike tool 14. The conduit 11 acts as the frame and has a pair of brackets 12 supporting the first sliding members 13 in the form of rollers or bodies of low friction material for engaging the edge of the plate. Two pincer-like tools 14 are mounted on the frame and interconnected by beams 15 which carry the further sliding members 16 in the form of rollers or bodies of low friction material pressed against the sides of the plate by springs 17. The sliding members guide the plate for movement relative to the apparatus as its edge is blasted by grit from the nozzles 18 which are secured to the pincer-like tools 14 and connected by hoses 19 to a source of blasting grit and compressed air. Shields 20 having rows of bristles 21 are mounted on the beams to confine the grit which is removed by suction through the hollow frame member 11.
