989,742. Coating apparatus. K. KONTANI, and E. KONTANI. Jan. 19,1962, No. 2144/62. Heading B2B. [Also in Division B7] A radio-controlled self-propelled endlesstrack device (see also Division B7) has on each side a series of slidably mounted magnets 10 with shoe pieces 11 by which the device is maintained against a metal surface which is to be painted or cleaned, a small clearance between the shoes 11 and surface being maintained by rollers 12 mounted on pins 13 and engaging the tracks 6. An interchangeable floor 5 with painting, scale removing (see Division B7) or other apparatus for work on the surface is provided. In Figs. 1 and 2, mounted below the floor are a paint spray gun 31 supplied through flexible pipes 57, 58 with air and paint, infra red drying lamps 32 and brushes 30 mounted on vertical shafts with pinions at their upper ends engaging transverse racks 28 which are reciprocated through linkage 24, 25 by motor 18. With an alternative floor the brushes are dispensed with.
