Abstract

1371945 X-ray apparatus INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 24 Feb 1972 [26 March 1971] 8529/72 Heading H5R The orientation of a monocrystal relative to a set of parallel lattice planes, which crystal has a plane external surface approximately parallel to the lattice planes, is determined from a single photograph obtained by the Buerger method, with the crystal mounted in a holder having a reference plane against which the crystal plane surface abuts, and which is parallel to the film plane. The holder has a reference plane RF provided with a beam passage SD and suction holes SL connected to a vacuum pump, for holding the monocrystal in position; a marking contact surface MK; and an arm AR rotatable by wheel H and adjustable by screws J for permitting adjustment of the reference plane parallel to the photographic plane. Details of the calculation of the three angles defining the lattice planes with respect to the plane surface, and a specific lattice direction in the lattice plane, are provided.
