Abstract

1351048 Tool setting apparatus INDEX-WERKE KG HAHN & TESSKY 11 Aug 1971 [20 Aug 1970] 37720/70 Heading B3B Tool setting apparatus for presetting a cutting tool 16 for subsequent mounting in a machine tool without further adjustment comprises a projector carrier 10 displaceable in two directions X, Y at right angles in the same plane and carrying two projectors 12, 14 with their optical axes at right angles to each other and in the same vertical plane means (not shown) for mounting a cutting tool on the apparatus and for adjusting the operative portion of the tool cutting edge relative to the axes of the projectors. One or both of the projectors may be of the contour projecting type or alternatively one may be a line locating projector. An image 36 of the cutting tool edge is projected on to a screen 22 of the contour projector 12 which is adjusted to a graticule on the screen and to a graticule on the projector 14. The position of the projector axes is adjusted by the displacement of the carrier 10 along the axes X and Y according to operative data provided, the cutting tool edge being accurately positionable in three perpendicular directions directly related to known parameters of the machine tool on which it is to be used and from which the operative data is established. The use of the projectors also permits the orientation of the cutting tool to be adjusted to obtain the required rake and clearance angles. Although the screens of the projectors 12 and 14 are separate as shown in Fig. 1, an alternative embodiment shown in Fig. 2 indicates the use of a common screen when two contour projectors are used.
