Abstract

1371811 Tipping containers SHEPPARD EQUIPMENT Ltd 1 Oct 1971 [16 Feb 1971] 4792/71 Heading B7B [Also in Division B8] In a vehicle a mechanism for moving a container on to the vehicle over an end or side thereof, tipping the container and moving the container off the vehicle over the end or side, comprises a first frame member 5 pivotally mounted at one end at the end or side of the vehicle and pivotally connected at its other end by pivot pins 6 to a second frame member 7 which together with a third frame member 8 attachable to the container 13 move the container on to and off the vehicle by pivotal movement of the second frame member 7 relative to the first frame member 5, whilst the third frame member 8 is movable together with the container 13 relative to the second frame member 7 to cause interlocking engagement between corresponding portions of the second frame member 7 and the container 13 whereby the container and the first, second and third frame members can be tipped by pivotal movement as one unit about the pivotal mounting of the first frame member 5. The first frame member 5 is pivotally mounted to the vehicle subframe 2 by pivot pins 3 which carry flanged wheels 24 upon which run tracks formed by underframe members 35 of the container 13. In operation a ram 11 is retracted to slide frame member 8 rearwardly relative to frame member 7 and members 7, 8 are together pivoted about pivot pins 6 until a hook 9 in member 8 engages a lifting bar 14 of container 13. The rams 10 are then retracted until the container 13 is in the rearward position 17, followed by extension of ram 11 sliding the member 8 together with container 13 to the forward position 18, while cantilever arms 12 forming part of the frame 7 engage respective laterally extending portions 5 of the container base. Thus with further extension of rams 10 the frame members 5, 7, 8 together with the container 13 may be tipped as one unit about the pivot pins 3. The frame member 7 has slide blocks 32 coated with antifriction lining 36 which engage channels 29 forming the horizontal portion of the member 8. In a modification the subframe 2 is turned through 90 degrees so that the container may be moved over the side of the vehicle.
