Abstract

1371594 Sleeve-type cartons, or carriers CONTINENTAL CAN CO Inc 15 March 1973 12490/73 Heading B8C A blank 10, Fig. 5, of paperboard, or like material, which is adapted to be folded up in tubular form to produce a wrap-round sleevetype carton for a double row of bottles B, is divided by transverse score lines 11-14 into top-wall, side-wall, and bottom-wall half-panels 15; 16; 17, and 20, 21 respectively the lower end edges of the side walls 16, 17 having integral gusset-forming, end-retaining, panels 24, 24<SP>1</SP> and 44, 44<SP>1</SP> respectively which have hinged thereto bottom end extensions 30, 30<SP>1</SP> and 50, 50<SP>1</SP> which are connected, by foldable webs 36, 36<SP>1</SP> and 56, 56<SP>1</SP> respectively, to the bottom wall half-panels 20, 21 and which, when the carton is erected, are folded so as to be located beneath the corresponding end-most pairs of bottles and prevent the unfolding of the triangular retaining panels 24, 24<SP>1</SP> and 44, 44<SP>1</SP>. The bottom half-panel 21 is provided with tabs 38, which are adapted to be inserted into corresponding apertures 37, 37<SP>1</SP> in the bottom half-panel 21, the tabs 38 being erected to act as divider panels 38, Fig. 2, for separating the bottom portions of each transverse pair of bottles the end of the panel portion which carries the tabs 38 being foldable along a score line 62 so that the tabs 38 become locked in position as cut-out tabs 63 in the score line 61 engage behind the edges 64 of the corresponding apertures 37. When folded inwardly the bottom end extensions 30, 301 and 50, 501 engage beneath the respective outermost tabs 38, as shown, in Fig. 2. The top panel 10 is provided with identification panels 82, 84 bottle-top-locating openings 75, and press-out carton carrying-tabs 77, openings 65 being provided in the side panels so that the bottles can be gripped as they pass through a packaging machine.
