Abstract

1370160 Boring earth &c ROBBINS CO 18 Oct 1972 [20 Oct 19711 48044/72 Heading ElF In a drill comprising a main frame 12, guide columns 18 upstanding on the main frame, a cross frame 22 movable along the columns, jacks 41 between the frames for moving the cross frame, and drilling equipment on the cross frame and comprising a motor 38 having a transmission connected to a rotary drill head 178, the transmission comprises a driving part in a housing 30 and a driven part in a housing 28, the housings with their respective parts being axially separable after removal of fastenings (not shown) connecting the housings. Two motors 38 are connected to a drive shaft 150 having a splined part 154 engaging internal splines in a driven member 156 forming part of the drill head drive disclosed in Specification 1369941. The drill is moved to its upper position and the upper part is connected to a member 20 bridging the guides, bolts between the housings are removed, and the cross frame is lowered to the position shown in Fig. 8 to provide an access space 212 to the housings and their respective transmission parts. The casing 124 with its enclosed transmission parts may be axially separated from the housing 30 and its enclosed transmission parts by removing bolts not shown. The weight of the drill stem 190 and the drill head is balanced by the apparatus disclosed in Specification 1362554.
