Abstract
1370071 Moulding metal chips THERMETICS Inc 4 Jan 1972 326/72 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions C7 and F4] Hot metal chips from a rotary furnace are compacted into briquettes in a box 38 with a cooperating plunger 34. The box 38 has an associated platform 32 which closes the open end of hopper 30 until it holds a sufficient amount of chips, whereupon the cylinder 42 moves the box 38 under the hopper, and afterwards returns it to its original position for the compacting operation. When sufficiently compacted, the cylinder 44 removes the base 41 of the box and the briquette is ejected by the plunger 34. The cylinders 42, 44 and 36 may be pneumatio or hydraulic and may be replaced by magnetic solenoid systems. The operations may be controlled in a timed sequence, and sensing switches may be used to determine the positions of the various parts.
