1369967 Twisting wires together MICAFIL AG 1 March 1973 [1 March 1972] 10058/73 Addition to 1063429 Heading B3E A method of winding wire 2, Fig. 1, on to a core 15 to form a coil, e.g. an electrical coil, comprises feeding the wire from a wire supply 1, winding the fed wire on to the core, directing the wire from the supply over spaced support members 16, 17 to form a strand comprising a plurality of side-by-side loops, rotating a further member 62 relative to both ends of the strand held by the members so as to twist the strand to form a strengthened end 66, Fig. 2, for the coil, and severing the wire to separate the formed coil from the wire supply. The support members comprise a fixed hook 16 and a hook 17 which is axially displaceable, adjustment being provided by spring 64 and set screw 65, during the twisting. An arm 62 has a finger 63 situated within the loops of the strand so that upon rotation of arm 62, by gear-wheels 60, 61, about the axis of the strand, the latter is twisted. The twisted bundle of wire may be released using a stripper bar 45 attached to a rod 42 upon actuation of cylinder 41.
