Abstract

1369853 Endless conveyers DOWTY MECO Ltd 1 Nov 1972 [19 Oct 1971] 48637/71 Heading B8A A terminal unit 2 of an armoured scraper chain conveyer is provided with chain tensioning means operable by an hydraulic ram 31 which is pivotally anchored to a floor beam 12 and to a slide 21 on which the unit 2 is mounted. A slot 36 in the slide receives a yoke 35 mounted on an eccentric cylindrical boss 27 from which extends a lever 28. The lever is connected to an end 29 of the ram 31. The floor beam 12 and a further beam 11 are engaged by pairs of hydraulic roof supports 9, 8 respectively. When the conveyer is in use the beam 12 is locked in position by the supports 9 and, by energizing the ram 31, the slide 21, together with the terminal unit 2, is urged longitudinally of the conveyer so as to tension the endless scraper member. When the lever 28 has moved to its limit position the beam 12, by suitable operation of the supports 8, 9 is moved to bring the lever 28 to a position in which it can begin a further tensioning stroke. A mechanical lock may maintain the terminal unit in position relative to the beam 12 when it has been located in the correct position.
