Abstract

1369674 Cable terminations P GOODWIN 8 Feb 1972 [11 Feb 1971] 4471/71 Heading H2E A sealing termination for a copper-sheathed mineral-insulated cable 7 comprises a onepiece cylindrical sleeve 4 with an integral collar 10 spaced from the ends. One end has a narrow bore 6 with a self-tapping thread by which it is screwed on to the cable sheath. The bared conductors 14 are threaded through PVC sleeves 16 which are then fitted through holes in a fibre disc 17 which is crimped in the other end of the sleeve 4. The sleeve is filled with waterproofing compound 15. Rings 11, 12, sliding over the sleeve 4, screw into a lead-in conduit (3, Fig. 2, not shown) of a conduit box and clamp the collar 10 between them. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) a nut (24) clamps the collar 10 against the end of an externally threaded nipple (25] screwed into the lead-in conduit and fixed by a lock-nut (26). In another embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) the outside of the sleeve is threaded to receive a nut which clamps the sleeve in a hole in a wall. In an embodiment for use with a plastics lead-in conduit (Fig. 5, not shown) with unthreaded walls, the rings 11, 12 are replaced by unthreaded plastics rings (47, 48) which are glued in the conduit, and an earth wire (49) is soldered in a hole at one end of the sleeve 4.
