Abstract
1368823 Electro-chemical electrodes ACTIVION GLASS Ltd 10 May 1972 [14 May 1971] 15066/71 Heading G1N In an ion-responsive electrode such as a glass electrode containing an electrolyte the Ag/AgCl wire electrode passes through a push-fit "stopper" e.g. of silicone rubber which can be removed from the glass tube prior to heat sterilisation. A combination electrode is described wherein the glass electrode is surrounded by an annular reference electrode having a porous plug saltbridge (10) Fig.1 (not shown). As shown the Ag/AgCl wire is attached to a coaxial cable 16 and passes through a silicone rubber sleeve 18 acting as a stopper. A wire helix screen 20 around the sleeve is attached to the braiding of the coaxial cable. A lead 17 from the annular reference electrode is also attached to the braiding. Suggested applications, medical, food, pharmaceutical, and in fermenters wherein it is known to use screwed sleeves and washers to provide a detachable closure means. Pressurization of the reference section by gas through side arm 9 is mentioned.
