Abstract
1368690 Burners SELAS CORP OF AMERICA 24 Jan 1972 [16 Feb 1971] 3320/72 Heading F4T A gaseous fuel burner comprises a burner block 3 for insertion in a furnace wall 1 the block 3 having a cup-shaped depression 4 with an annular recess 5 at its base in one face and an opening 6 extending from the cup base to the opposing face, and having a ridge 8 on the inner surface proximate the depression, a pair of tubes 14 and 15 having discharge ends terminating at diametrically opposed points between the ridge and the depression base for projecting fuel tangentially and normal to the axis of the opening. The opening may receive a cylindrical member 6 attached to the outer furnace wall and including the ridge 8. Two curved discharge tubes 14, 15 may extend from a central axial fuel supply pipe 12. Alternatively, the opening in the block 3 may have a cylindrical portion of reduced diameter (23), Fig. 4 (not shown), the edge of the portion forming the ridge and extending helically relative to the cylinder axis, tubes (29) running axially in grooves (25) in the inner surface of the cylindrical portion and terminating in nozzles (27). Combustion air is controlled by a shutter 17 of diameter larger than the opening, lined with sound absorbing material 21, e.g. glass wool, and arranged to slide axially relative to the opening.
