Centrifugal machines. -Relates to the moulding by centrifugal force of articles from materials including formaldehyde condensation products, earthenware, &c., and comprises a device adapted to be rotated at high speed about the axis of the article to be moulded, such device being provided with passages which produce a radial sucking action tending to remove liquid and gas from the material being moulded. As shown, the device comprises two members A, B secured together and adapted to be centred on a magnetic chuck by a projection A<1>. The member A forms the outer shell of the mould, and the member B is provided with a stem B<1> forming the core, which is formed with an inlet B<2> and distributing-channels B<3> for the material. A stalk B<5> on the member B is fitted with a screw B<4>, or is constructed as a centrifugal pump, whereby the material is forced into the rotating mould when the stalk B<5> is dipped into the material. In a modification, the material is forced into the mould under pressure through a tube inserted into the stalk, such tube being provided with grooves to minimize leakage. Liquid and gas are sucked out of the mould through channels B<6>, B<7>. To assist in the removal of liquid and gas, the device may be vibrated by introducing a lack of balance or by percussion. The gas and liquid may be removed mechanically or may be chemically absorbed. The mould may be provided with a heating-jacket. According to the Provisional Specification, the liquid and gas are withdrawn by spiral grooves.
