Abstract

1367952 Making carrier bags PRINTEX 19 Oct 1971 [20 Oct 1970] 48510/71 Heading A4G Carrier bags are made by feeding formed bag bodies to a welding position 7, spreading the opposed sides at the opening, inserting a pair of handles 1, allowing the sides to come together, and welding the handles simultaneously to the inside of the top edge of the bag. As shown in Fig.1, the bag may have a single bottom seam and side gussets. The handles may be fed in pairs from magazine 36 via reciprocating slide 33 to the welding position 7, and the handles may be temporarily joined or separate. Alternatively Fig. 4 (not shown), there may be two magazines and slides each feeding one handle of a pair. The sides of the bag may be spread during movement towards the sealing position by suction devices 20. The handles may be inserted during movement or after movement has stopped. The device may be run in synchronism with a bag-body-forming machine, or may accept bag bodies from a stock. The bags with handles are removed by peg 39 on conveyer 16 on to slower-moving conveyer 42.
