1367805 Rolling mills; abrading BRITISH STEEL CORP 30 Nov 1972 [3 Dec 1971] 56288/71 Headings B3M and B3D Cleaning apparatus, for removing dirt or particles from the roll of a rolling mill, includes a manifold 12 which supports an abrasive surface 10 in contact with the roll, the manifold being connected to a pump for sucking the dirt through interstices in the surface. The surface may be provided by a body of porous abrasive material formed from compacted particles. Alternatively, the body may comprise elongated spaced strips 10. The body is urged against the roll pneumatically, hydraulically or by springs. apparatus may be applied to the backing or working rolls of a cold rolling mill.
