Abstract

1486209 Rolling mill rolls SWISS ALUMINIUM Ltd 15 Oct 1974 [17 Oct 1973] 44731/74 Heading B3M A roll for use in reducing non-ferrous, e.g. aluminium, strip, has minute groove-like depressions in its surfaces extending parallel to, or at an angle of up to 60 degrees from, the rotational axis of the roll. The depressions may be between 0À0005 and 0À040 mm. (and preferably 0À005 to 0À015 mm.) in depth and formed by grinding or turning followed by fine grinding or polishing. One or both rolls of a pair may be formed in this manner, the depressions serving to retain the rolling lubricant, e.g. palm kernel oil plus petroleum, during a cold-rolling operation.
