Abstract

1367708 Dyeing polyacrylonitrile CIBAGEIGY AG 12 Dec 1972 [21 Dec 1971] 57331/72 Heading D1B [Also in Division C2] Polyacrylonitrile fibres are dyed with basic dyes in acidic preferably pH 3 to 6 aqueous dyeing preparations in presence of anionic assistants of formula in which R is an optionally substituted alkyl or alkenyl radical having 7 to 21 carbon atoms, A is -COO- or -OCO-, B is a mononuclear or binuclear aromatic radical, R 1 is hydrogen or a hydroxyl, alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkoxy, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl group or a halogen atom and M<SP>+</SP> is an inorganic or organic cation, e.g. sodium potassium/ammonium, protonised monodi- and tri-ethanolamine. 0.1% to 5% by weight of the above assistants based on weight of fibre may be used in buffered alyl preparations to dye by the exhaust material. The preparations used for dyeing as above are prepared by parting the basic dye with acid or buffer salt acid followed by adding hot water and the anionic assistant as specfied above, other conventional dyeing assistants may also be added. Mixtures of basic dyes may be employed and good levelling is obtained.
