Abstract

1367392 Microwave switches and limiters FERRANTI Ltd 19 Jan 1973 [22 Jan 1972] 3130/72 Heading H1W A microwave power limiter comprises a tuned, power-dependent, circuit coupled to an input line by a step-up (voltage) transformer. As shown a parallel-tuned circuit is provided by post 13 and variable-capacity diode 20 mounted inside a conductive cavity 10. Further posts 11, 12 connected respectively to the central conductors 14, 16 of input and output coaxial lines provide transformers between the impedance of the lines and that of the tuned structure. The diode is located by means of a spring contact 21 and threaded stud 22. The power response of the limiter may be adjusted by means of tuning screws 27. A ferro-electric capacitor may be used instead of a diode. A modification is described (Figs. 4, 5, not shown), in which the tuned structure and transformers are mounted in a rectangular waveguide at a point of reduced H-dimension.
