Abstract

1367160 Windscreens SAINT-GOBAIN INDUSTRIES 1 Dec 1971 [8 Dec 1970] 55749/71 Heading B7J [Also in Division H4] In a vehicle window pane carrying aerial conductors, a closed screening loop is provided in the region of the edge of the panel. As described, a laminated windscreen 10, Fig. 2, has on its internal surface one or more aerial conductors 4, which may be deposited by a printing process and be baked on, and which are furnished with a terminal 5. A conducting strip 18, forming a closed loop, is similarly deposited on the periphery of the windscreen. A finger 19 extends upwardly from the centre of the lower part of the strip 18, and is furnished with a terminal 21. A rubber mounting ring 12, which may be of high dielectric loss material, supports the windscreen 10 within the vehicle bodywork 3, and conceals the strip 18 from view. A coaxial cable 6 extends from the aerial to a receiver 7, and the terminal 19 of the screening loop is connected to the sheath thereof. Alternatively, the screening loop may be connected to a point in the vehicle where parasitic voltages appear which have the same levels and frequencies as, but are opposite in phase to, the parasitic voltages existing in the vicinity of the windscreen mounting (Fig. 8, not shown). If a point cannot be found where the voltage equality and phase opposition conditions are satisfied, passive and/or active circuit components may be inserted in the lead from the screening loop (Fig. 9, not shown). In a second embodiment, the windscreen is a single sheet of toughened glass, but it is otherwise similar to the first embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown). In a third embodiment, aerial conductors 24, Fig. 3, are embedded in the interlayer 25 of a laminated windscreen, which is fixed to the vehicle bodywork 27 by adhesive 26, and a peripheral conductive loop 29 is also located within said interlayer. In a fourth embodiment a wire loop 36, Fig. 4, is located within the rubber mounting ring 34 of a toughened glass windscreen 31, near the periphery thereof. A fifth embodiment is similar to the fourth, but features a laminated windscreen (Fig. 1, not shown). In a sixth embodiment a wire loop is located within the adhesive fixing a toughened glass windscreen to the vehicle bodywork (Fig. 6, not shown).
